ABOUT US
Who We Are
IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) is a global network of IEEE volunteers. It is a subcommittee of IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC).
Among 380 projects across 39 countries, Beshuddho was one of the projects selected for funding. The project aimed to build an affordable water purifier applicable for use in Dhaka households. The members of the project collaborated with DU’s Microbiology department for necessary testing.
What We Do
We at SIGHT aim to leverage engineering technology to sustainably help local under-served neighbourhoods – often in collaboration with domestic organisations and non-profits. We come together to learn about sustainable development, build relationships within our local communities, and implement SIGHT group projects that utilise technology to tackle key problems within the community.
Testimonials
“SIGHT is the only group in IEEE SB DU where members can directly pursue their humanitarian project ideas and see it come to fruition through IEEE-funded projects. It provides a great extracurricular activity for volunteers to engage in and provides opportunities to work closely with local networks. I hope the newly elected executive committee will help to expand our group’s impact even beyond SB DU - across R10 and even global IEEE.”
Mazidul Gani Siam
Chair, IEEE SIGHT SB DU“I'll never forget my time at IEEE SIGHT SB DU. It was invaluable to my development as a learner and as a person. SIGHT taught me how to give my job meaning and how even the smallest of our projects can have a big impact on the world. I hope that future volunteers will continue to comprehend the problems in the world and seek out methods to alleviate it for those who are less privileged. I wish you the best of luck!“
Sriman Bidhan Baray
Ex-Chair, IEEE SIGHT DU EEE"IEEE SIGHT SB DU is a great avenue that offers various opportunities to practice technical and management skills. The community offers a professional environment with like-minded people from diverse backgrounds. A vast set of opportunities offer a great scope for self-exploration as well as networking. Our members have formulated and developed projects in the past that helped the local community. I hope the newcomers can follow the legacy and go above and beyond."
Asif Rahman Dipto
Vice Chair, IEEE SIGHT SB DU“I have been a member of SIGHT since my first year at Dhaka University. It gave me a scope to explore my interests in technology - particularly in robotics and graphic designing tools - and taught me how to frame it for humanitarian causes. I got to work on multiple projects and learned a lot from the feedback I got from senior members. There’s to continuing our progress in the future!”
